73/365 March 14, 2011

If you look close enough, you can see snowflakes.  Today a few flurries came down in the afternoon.  One of my students said, "Hey everyone it's a snowstorm!"  The response?  A collective groooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan.
We want warm spring weather!

72/365 March 13, 2011

This log has been resting on our beach for a few years now.  I love how it is an old weathered piece of life.  It is nestled into the sand, and is a great place to plop down and have a seat to watch the ocean.  It is sitting upon a wash of purple sand.  This sand has a very high iron content.  When we were little Grampy would let us use his magnets and drag them through the sand to collect all the iron.

We went for a walk on the beach today after we visited Grammy in the hospital.  We are putting her into hospice care.  We don't know how long she has to live, but know that she is ready to die.  She made that very clear to us all.  I couldn't help but think back to the memories I have of her on this beach.  She used to watch us swim, build sand castles, and catch "beach bugs".  We could always rely on her to share a handful of "wheat nuts", and to teach us how to make a great pie crust.  She is 94 years old.  On April 18th she will turn 95 years old.  She has had a long and happy life.  I just hope that these last few days (hopefully not weeks) will be as comfortable and peaceful as possible.

When we went to visit Grammy at the hospital on Saturday,
we walked past this picture of the Brewster flats.

70/365 Friday March 11, 2011

After a gray day of rain and clouds... and bad news about Grammy's health, I dashed home to pack up the car to hit the road for CT.  The sun came out, and left this beautiful piece of sky.  I took it as a sign that whatever happened, it was going to be okay.

Candlelit dinner.  Not for the romance either.  We had a power outage for about 45 minutes... so we ate our dinner by candle light!

68/365 Epic Brass March 9, 2011

Today was an assembly day!  The group Epic Brass came to my school.  The kids got a great dose of brass music.  The guys were entertaining, and quite talented.  The kids had a ball, and so did I!

67/365 Book Fair Tuesday March 8, 2011

The Scholastic Book Fair is here.  You should have seen how excited my kids were!  They were actually yelling.  I'm so glad that books can still excite ten-year-olds.  It is also a great time for me to get some books myself.  The families in my class are very generous, and have given me several books from my wish list.  I just wish I had time to read all the novels they've given me!

Hooray for books!
