Some shots from my walk this afternoon.

171/365 June 20, 2011 Where the Sidewalk Ends

Where the Sidewalk Ends

On our way to the end of year teacher party, we walked along the neighborhood sidewalk, and it ended.  Bridget reminded us of the poem "Where the Sidewalk Ends" by Shel Silverstein.

Where the Sidewalk Ends

There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
A there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.

Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.

Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we'll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.

On Father's Day we went to Wellfleet, MA (on the Cape) to spend the day with Mom and Dad.  They were visiting Frank and Cherry Watkinson.  We went on a great walk through some marshy land and sand dunes.  On our walk back, the tide was coming in and fast!

Here's a link to a little video we took: tide rising!

Principal on the roof!
My boss, Mike, made a bet with our student council.  If they could double their goal for collecting canned goods for the local food pantry, he would move his desk onto the roof of the school!  They collected over 600 cans.  So he was on the roof during recess!  Best principal ever!

Ah the art of poster making.  This is the most decorated and fancy of all the ancient China research posters the kiddos did.  I spent a LONG time grading these projects.  But the kids all worked hard.

So here's a plant that lives on my desk at school.  It is sprouting a little baby.  Too cute.  I thought you all might like my fancy stake that is holding it up.  At least I was creative!

Two of my students have been learning how to make cakes with fondant.  They brought this cake in to thank all the teachers they've had over the past 6 years in elementary school.  The teachers were all impressed to say the least!

158/365 Buffalo Chicken Pizza

Last night was our first attempt at homemade buffalo chicken pizza.  I think it was a success!  Yum.

I know I've posted a picture of these little sparkly birds before... but it was on a cloudy day.  Today I went for a nice long walk (almost to Andy's office) and we walked home together.  It was really nice to see these birdies sparkling in the streets of Inman Square.  I really like this kind of public art.  And it was a lovely walk.

This is a one match fire my students made during their time at the Hale Reservation.  I was so proud!

It's slug weather!

This cactus is named "The Juice".  I named him because of his bright orange flowers.  Unfortunately he got spilled at a party about 8 years ago.  He hasn't bloomed again until now!  Welcome back Juice!

After the Memorial Day Parade, Andy, Tom, and I walked across the bridge over the canal.  It is a lift bridge.  We've never seen it lift, but it did as soon as we got to the top of the stairs!  A boat went underneath, and we walked across!  Pretty cool.

Boston Improv: on our Mystery Trip in 5th grade!  The kids didn't know when or where we were going.    The kids got to participate, and loved it all!

145/365 Peter Reynolds Visit

We had a presentation by Peter Reynolds at school the other day.  He is an author and illustrator.  He was really inspiring to the kids.  He taught them all about his company fablevision.  He shared his story The Dot.  I'm hoping to take a trip to his book/toy store The Blue Bunny.  I hope to take a trip there this summer!
