Craziest Doughnut Shop Ever!
Voodoo Doughnuts
Everything you could imagine on a doughnut.  We had oreos, rice crispies, and peanut butter on ours!  More that Portland has to offer us!

A balloon on a bike.  So Portland.  I complimented the guy who walked up to it after I took the picture and he said it was a birthday balloon.  I wished him a happy birthday and he said he'd send the message along to the birthday girl.  (He was delivering it!)

After a loooooonnnnng plane ride to Portland, Brandon picked us up in "Miss Sunshine" a 1981 Mercedes.  She's a lovely yellow, and rattles beyond belief.  But she runs on biodiesel, and is perfect for the Prinzings!

Street Art.  They are little bird shaped shiny metal pieces.  They blew very nicely in the wind today!  I think our neighbor Billy would approve!  (Jennie wouldn't because they are birds!)

108/365 Marathon Monday

Jennie and I were official BAA volunteers on Marathon Monday.  We worked the 13.2 mile water stop in Wellesley.  It was an incredible intense day.  I'm so glad that I had the opportunity to do this.  We had 20 five-gallon water jugs at each of 18 tables. (9 on either side of the street).  The first three tables of each side were gatorade.  The rest was water. (Imagine this set up for each mile of the race!)

Once we were set up we waited a little while and then the wheel chairs came along.  We practiced our water distribution (See Annette and Meg below)

Once the elites came by we were ready.  We all hoped that an elite would grab water from us.  Of course Meg gave water to two of the elites including American Ryan Hall.  Then the masses came. Water was flying everywhere.  We barely had time to cheer anyone on.  I would grab 6 waters at a time and hand them out in seconds.  The two hours of handing out water flew by.  Soon we were raking and scooping up cups.  Then I got the chance to walk alongside two of the Biggest Losers from last season.  Elizabeth and Brendan, both from the Boston area.  I encouraged them, and thanked Elizabeth who was running for the American Liver foundation!
We made it back into the city to see several of our friends at the finish.

An amazing day!

Marathon weekend the Magnolias are always in bloom!

Beautiful planter on our walk after the Run for Research Team Brunch.

106/365 Boston Militia

Saturday night we went to see the Boston Militia play.  It is a women's full contact tackle football league.  They kicked butt.  They played against the New York Sharks.  They won 28 to 3 (I think).  They blew them out of the water!  Andy and I bid on tickets to the game in an auction benefiting the Somerville Groundworks.  We really enjoyed the game and were glad we could support two organizations that we believe in.

They have "patriots" who shot off their guns at the start and end of the game!

105/365 Chinese Cultural Day

Today was Chinese Cultural Day.  My fifth graders learned how to do some Chinese painting, Chinese calligraphy, and the Chinese Ribbon Dancing.  Posted below are a few pictures of the activities, and my attempt at videos!

The teacher modeled this beautiful painting.  I wish mine could have been half as good!

My students hard at work.

The latest set of "lawn decorations" from our neighbor.  I'll let the photo speak for itself!

Another installment of interesting neighborhood weirdness.  I noticed that "dreams are real" was spray painted on our sidewalk when we moved in.  It has become part of the backdrop of my neighborhood, and it wasn't until recently I remembered this.  I'm finding that by trying to take a photo a day I am beginning to notice lots more little things in life.  Now that I think about it, I imagine that our downstairs neighbor the hippie crunchy bike messenger may have scrawled this message.  It wouldn't surprise me.  He is always smoking up and enjoying all life has to offer.  Maybe he does believe that dreams are real.

Cool bike we saw on a walk this weekend.  I particularly like the copper fenders.

Fraggles

As some of you may have read, I love visiting my local Shaws/Star Market.  My favorite cashier Lydia is usually there.  But that isn't the only thing I like about my Shaws.  I like the fact that it is close enough to walk.  It is even close enough to walk with four bags of groceries.  (Even though sometimes I feel like my arms will fall off by the time I get home) but nonetheless, it's close by!

Driving actually takes longer because you have to go a few blocks out of the way to cross the train tracks.  But there is a crafty little tunnel that brilliantly goes right underneath the commuter rail.  I like it because it is handy, but I also like it because there is a great mural that some local kids at one of the schools nearby painted on the walls of the tunnel.

I smile every time I walk by.  They even have Fraggles from Fraggle Rock!  I love Somerville.

Snow one day, and flowers the next!

Yesterday I was taking pictures of the snow, and today it is crocus!  That's New England for you.

91/365 April 1, 2011 April Fool's!

April Fool's!

April Fool's day brought us yet another snow storm.  Everyone was groaning about it.  I can't say that I was thrilled we had more snow.  But I wasn't mad.  I wasn't even annoyed.  I think I was secretly still a little excited.  I must be a true New Englander.  I can't help but like a good storm.  Especially when I get to drive to work in a winter wonderland.  You must admit.  It is just gorgeous.

So as I was driving to work on this April Fool's day, I decided I should pull over and document the gorgeous view that was my commute.

I feel like we are so lucky to live in New England.  We have four seasons.  Not everyone gets that.  I'll take it, and try my best to never complain about it.

Quiche

Thursday was a full day for me.  A regular day at school followed by a kick ass (literally) kickboxing class.  Sheri and I have committed to kickboxing every Thursday... it is a really fun class!  Once I dropped Sher off at home I took my sweaty ass to the store because I needed to buy ingredients to make quiches for breakfast at school the next morning.

Andy had a late meeting, and came home around 9:00.  I was feverishly working on the quiches.  That's when I realized that I remembered to buy all the ingredients except... the pie crust.

Here's where I admit that I have never been able to make a successful pie crust... I swear Grammy taught me like ten times, but I can never do it on my own.  So I always revert to the good old pre-made ones.  Maybe that is lazy, but at least I was putting in the effort to make a home-made quiche for breakfast.  So, Andy walked down to Lydia's to get me my pie crust.

I was happily stirring the onions when he walked through the door with the one grocery item I had forgotten.  I opened the fridge to grab the milk, and it dawned on me.  We didn't have enough milk.

Well, that Andy... I did marry him for many reasons.  One of them is that he is a man who has the patience of a saint.  He puts up with my scatterbrainedness (is that even a word?).  He willingly went back down the hill to Lydia and bought a gallon of milk.  What a great guy.

Finally at around 10:45 the quiches were done!  It would have been a lot easier to buy pre-made quiches.  I always bite off more than I can chew.  Ugh.

I did get quite a few compliments at breakfast the next morning though!
